The 6th FAI F3P World Championship for Indoor Aerobatic Model Aircraft starts this Sunday

The most important F3P Aeromodelling event of 2025 – the FAI F3P World Championships for Indoor Aerobatic Model Aircraft starts this Sunday 2 February in Widen, Switzerland, where the world's best senior and junior pilots will put their precision aerobatic manoeuvres to the test in the hopes of gaining a place on the podium.

The sixth edition of this spectacular competition will be held between 2 - 8 February 2025 at the Burkertsmatt Sports Arena, and will feature two challenging categories: 

  • F3P-A, in which competitors fly a predefined sequence of manoeuvres to the highest degree of precision possible
  • F3P-AFM, in which the aircraft follow a choreographed aerobatic flight set to music

A total of 33 athletes from 10 countries (Austria, Belgium, China, Czech Republic, France, Germany, Japan, Lithuania, Netherlands, Poland and Switzerland) will compete in the F3P-A class, with 26 athletes participating in the F3P-AFM choreographed competition. Their flights will be judged by international judges.

Among those competing will be CIAM Legend and five-time world champion title holder, Gernot Bruckmann of Austria, whose talent in the category is unparalleled. Seven juniors will compete in the F3P-A category, with five of these also taking on the AFM category against another five competitors.

FAI Aeromodelling Commission President, Antonis Papadopoulos, will attend the event, and comments, "We are pleased to welcome so many talented aeromodellers to Switzerland, and based on the experience of the organisers, we expect to have a very interesting competition. We wish all participants the best of luck in this challenging contest.

In addition to support from the local council, the competition will be hosted by the Aero-Club of Switzerland and the Swiss Aeromodelling Federation.

Competition schedule

  • 2 February at 16:30: Official Opening Ceremony
  • 3 and 4 February: Four F3P-A preliminary rounds, with the top 10 going through to the finals
  • 5 and 6 February: Four F3P-AFM preliminary rounds and again the top 10 will enter the finals
  • 7 February: F3P-A final rounds
  • 8 February: F3P-AFM final rounds. Closing and Awards Ceremony at 16:00
